Happy Saturday everyone💙 📌弓道: 目づかいの話 📌Talking about ｢the gaze｣ mezukai in kyudo 🔹弓道では目づかいが重要です。アーチェリーや武道なさってるみんな様、目づかいは気にしますか？コメントは大歓迎です✨ 🔹Our gaze or mezukai is very important in kyudo. For archers: what kind of gaze do you have? Do you shoot with both eyes open? For martial artists: is your gaze important in your discipline? Tell me in the comments😊 🔹日常稽古では、まばたきを少しおさえたいところで今研究中です。射が全体的にゆっくり、落ち着いてますが、目だけがパチパチしてると、見てる方は射に集中できず、目に行っちゃう事も。射手本人も少し不安定に見えます。 🔹In my kyudo practice I am trying to stop my habit of blinking too much (mabataki). When the rest of your body is slow and calm but you have blinking eyes it is very distracting for people watching you. It also shows you aren't really calm in your thoughts and may come across as flustered. 🔹審査では目づかい評価されます。目線はどこに、どのタイミングで、その長さ、めつきなど見られます。目づかいは呼吸や姿勢に大きな影響があり、繋げて射に影響があります。 🔹At grading our mezukai is assessed. When and where we look, for how long. It is said that our mezukai has an affect on our breathing and our posture which in turn affects the way we shoot. 📌目は常に半眼に開き、鼻頭を通してやわらかで。 📌So our eyes should be hanbiraki or half open, not hard staring, not sleepy looking. The gaze passes over the tip of the nose and down softly to where it needs to be. 🔹立っている時の目線は4m先、 座っているときは2m先。礼、揖、足ふみ、弦調べ、物見等 の動作においては、すれぞれの意義をわきまえ目づかいを正しく 行うべきであると言えます。 🔹When standing, our gaze is 4m ahead, when sitting 2m ahead. When looking at the target (monomi), entering and leaving the shooting area, rei/yu bow and half bow, placing the feet (ashibumi), nocking our arrows etc, each dousa or kata has a mezukai.

🐴Happy Wednesday everyone! 今日は心が柔らかくなる投稿です❤木曽馬親子と仲良しタイム✨ A bit of a feel good post for you today! Bonding time with a wonderful mother and baby kiso horses🐴 お母さん｢あやめ｣と｢あやめっ仔｣です! (生後11週) 紅葉台木曽馬牧場の木曽馬です。 This is Ayame and her daughter Ayame-ko (approx 11 weeks old). They are kiso horses, indigenous to Japan. They belong to Kouyodai Horse Ranch in Yamanashi. あやめママがうまれてから初めて会う時でした。元気そうでとてもうれしかった。 This baby is about 11 weeks old. This was the first time for me to see Ayame since her baby was born. Both Ayame and her daughter are happy and healthy✨ 最初、近づけいいかな?!、触っていいのか!? 少し心配しました。生まれたての馬は触っていいかどうか少しわからなくて･･自分も生まれたての赤ちゃんお散歩に連れっていくと、知らない人が勝手に触りに来たりしました!(笑)🙃 At first I wasn't sure if it was ok to go ahead and touch Ayame-ko as maybe the mother horse wouldn't appreciate it!  Being a mom myself when my kids were just born alot of people wanted to touch and kiss (complete strangers🙃) でもあやめとあやめっ仔が人間に全くなれてるようで、先生が沢山甘やかししてあげてくださいっと😊背中かきかき、やなでなが大好きみたいです✨木曽馬のベビーと毎回会えるなんて貴重と思います。成長楽しみにしてます！ But they are used to the attention and both love a cuddle and a scratch. I feel lucky to be able to see Ayame-ko as she gets bigger. I will keep you all updated! 本州の在来種は木曽馬のみである。短足胴長であり、体幅が広いところが特徴的。平安時代から江戸時代にかけて、武士の馬として使用された。 Kiso uma is one of the eight indigenous horse breeds of Japan. It is the only native horse breed from Honshu. Like most other Japanese native breeds, it is critically endangered. 一時絶滅寸前であったが木曽馬保存会が中心に活動が行なわれた結果、飼育数は増加した。しかし以前のような乗用、農耕を目的とした需要はなく、現在は200頭以下だそう。 The Kiso is a small horse, but mid-sized in relation to other Japanese native breeds. I love its long hair and stocky build. The Kiso breed originates from the Kiso Valley and Kiso Sanmyaku mountain range in Nagano, and Higashimino region, Gifu, Honshu. During the Meiji era the breed was severely affected by  breeding programmes of the Imperial Army, which wanted taller horses and ordered that Kiso stallions be gelded. 山梨の紅葉台木曽馬牧場では木曽系乗用馬の保存、育成を目的に設立された。和種馬（木曽馬や北海道和種などの日本在来馬）の活用の1つとして和式馬術の探求を行っています。 Thanks to specialised breeding programs and horse ranches like this one, little by little the population is growing once again.

Happy Friday everyone! 🏹弓道矢の話 🏹Talking about kyudo arrows 🔹私は弓道する時和弓と一緒使う矢は竹またはジュラルミン。ジュラルミンとはアルミニウムに銅・マグネシウム・マンガン・珪素(けいそ)などを混ぜた強い軽合金。航空機などの材料にする。 The arrows that I use with my yumi are called ya 矢. Mine are made from bamboo or duralumin. I have a couple of sets of each. Duralumin is a strong light alloy which is made by mixing copper, magnesium, manganese, silicon with aluminum, it is also used as a material for aircraft. 🔹矢の長さは矢束(やづか)といいます。首の中心から横にまっすぐ伸ばした腕の指先まで）より手の指数本分長いものが安全上好ましいとされている。Our arrow length is called yazuka and is measured from the middle of our neck to our finger tips plus 3~10cm depending on archers experience. 🔹私の矢(征矢)の矢尻(やじり)は写真5枚目です Starting at the arrow tips, yajiri 矢尻 some of my arrows are in photo.5 These types of arrows are called soya 征矢 🔹縄文時代までは石の他、鮫の歯、動物の骨や角などで作られていたが、弥生後期には急速に鉄製(鉄鏃)に変わっている。使用目的により、様々な形の鏃が発達した。現在では鉄製のものが用いられている。 On the other hand, antique arrows similar to those use traditionally by samurai are vay varied in shape and material. Made from steel or animal horns or bones. The forked arrows are called karimata 雁股.photo 6　 🔹箆（の）矢の長細いシャフトの部分が箆(の)といいます。私はイーストンの1913のものを使ってて弓が11.5k伸と12.5k並 The arrow shaft is called the no and for me my shaft thickness depends on my draw weight. At the moment my arrows are made by Easton and are 1913 which are for a bow draw of up to 13 or 14kg. 🔹矢羽（やばね）矢に取り付けられている羽。だいたい15㌢の3列になる弓道羽が鷲、鷹、白鳥、七面鳥、鶏、鴨など様々な種類の鳥の羽が使用される。 Arrow fletching yabane or hane is usually about 15cm long the standard kyudo arrow has 3 rows of fletching. The price of your arrows will vary greatly depending on which feathers are used. Turkey is very popular as it is relatively inexpensive and can be dyed or decorated in many colours. Other feather used are lesser eagles, swans, or geese. Mine are kuro washi or black eagle. 🔹矢の末端の弦に番える部分が筈(はず)といいます。現在ですと角やプラスチックで作られてます。The nocking point on a kyudo arrow is called the hazu 筈 and comes in a variety of materials with the low cost option being plastic, more expensive is animal horn. #弓道 #archery #arrows #happyfriday
