📌Talking about tasuki
👘着物を着て弓引く時、着物袖が弓の邪魔にならないよう襷裁き｢たすきさばき｣行います。
👘In kyudo when women(and very occasionally, men) wear kimono to shoot, the kimono sleeves must be tucked away so they dont get caught in the bow string.
襷長さ=アンダーバストx2.4倍
We use a sash called a tasuki (たすき) (襷) Length is variable depending on ones body size but usually about 2.4 times the measurement of the persons underbust. Folded in about 18cm segments (photo 2) mine are silk.
コロナおきる前では4段の審査が和服で行いました、そのため私の道場では参段から襷裁きの指導が始まりました。現在五段から審査が和服になりました。
For our 4th dan shinsa/grading we wear kimono and shoot (Pre corona). We learn the movements and special technique to tie the tasuki after passing 3rd dan.
今回投稿してる写真は弓矢の動作ではなく、襷裁きの様子のみです✨

入場してから一旦座って、弓矢はバランスしながら襷裁きを行う✨
Upon entering the shajo or shooting area we sit, we balance the bow and arrow on our legs. With our glove already on we pull the taski from our hakama waist band and proceed to tie.
襷裁き動作もスムーズに行われるよう、何度も何度も練習が必要です。タイミング、スピード、見た目、色んな基準があります。
One sleeve at a time this technique must be practiced over and over so that it is smooth and that the sleeves are correctly tucked away.
📌最後の結び目が必ず右になります。
The musubime or knot must be on our right hand side.
振袖着物でも、袖が綺麗に畳む事が望ましい。そのため手伝いが必要です。畳んだ袖が襷で止め、結び目が背中になることが多いです。
Even furisode kimono/with very very long sleeves can be tucked away beautifully. Furisode kimono tasuki requires help as the sleeves are folded on top of themselves then tied behind the archers back.
着物を着て、弓を持つ時の礼儀作法が大切と思います。
Sleeve and tasuki tying etiquette is important when wearing kimono holding a yumi.
襷裁きの動作は今のところ2回ほど指導はうけたのですがまだまだ練習が必要な動作です。いつか綺麗にできるよう頑張りたいと思います。
I have been taught tasuki sabaki about twice however I am very slow and forget things still.

こちらが大宮にある道場ですが、所属道場直してる間に度々お世話になり増した。
This was a calm and sunny day in Omiya, north of Tokyo at a dojo I have been practicing at during the time my main dojo was getting fixed.
光のか原画よくて、芝生も良い香り、木造の壁と床、畳、デザインが全体的に昭和時代ですが私は好きです。
The light is really beautiful here, the grass smells great, the wooden walls and tatami are very typical of kyudojos of this era here in Japan.
奥に巻藁3台あります。巻藁は的を気にせず近くで弓引けます。ゆっくりと射を考える事もできます✨
In the background you can see three makiwara for practising close range shooting with no target. Its a great way to focus on fixing your technique.
心が落ち着く環境です。
ここで弓と自分と呼吸だけ考える場所です。
It's a calm and quiet environment free from distractions. Here you can focus on the bow and yourself.
膝頭に弓をおく動作が好きです。置く瞬間が一旦落ち着きます✨

🌎この度節句鎧兜を身に付いて、こどもの日に世界中の子供達の
｢健康、勇気、病気や悪から守る｣事を願ってます。
🌎I'm wearing sekku type yoroikabuto, traditionally displayed during kodomo no hi or Children's Day.
The meaning of kabuto, the helmet, and Oyoroi the armour is very special.
With my kabuto and yoroi I'm sending everyone, especially children wishes and hope for health, courage, and protection from diseases and evil.

📌5月5日、端午の節句は、男の子の成長を祝う日であり、現代では「子どもの日」とも呼ばれています。男の子の誕生を祝い、健やかな成長を願って両親や親戚から贈られるのが一般的です。健やかに成長することを願う重要な行事として定着していったのです。
📌May 5th is Children's Day, or Kodomo no Hi (子供の日), and was originally known as Tango no sekku (端午の節句). It became a national holiday in 1948, but it has been a day of celebration in Japan since ancient times.
Tango no Sekku was historically set as a festival for boys on the 5th day of the 5th month. Girls have their own festival, called Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival), held on March 3rd,
It is said that during the Kamakura period, Tango-no-sekku was a celebration for the male heirs of military class and rituals remained an important part of the Kodomo no Hi. It began in Kyoto during the Heian Period and gradually developed and gained popularity starting from Edo.

昨日は和式馬術、騎射(スポーツ流鏑馬)稽古ありました！
山梨の紅葉台木曽馬牧場行きました！えびす君とみちのうすけ君さんです🐴❤
Yesterday I had a sports yabusame and washiki bajutsu lesson at Kouyodai Kisouma Horse Ranch. This is Ebisu🐴
Kiso uma is one of the eight indigenous horse breeds of Japan. It is the only native horse breed from Honshu. Like most other Japanese native breeds, it is critically endangered.
本州の在来種は木曽馬のみである。短足胴長であり、体幅が広いところが特徴的。平安時代から江戸時代にかけて、武士の馬として使用された。
一時絶滅寸前であったが木曽馬保存会が中心に活動が行なわれた結果、飼育数は増加した。しかし以前のような乗用、農耕を目的とした需要はなく、現在は200頭以下だそう。
The Kiso is a small horse, but mid-sized in relation to other Japanese native breeds. I love its long hair and stocky build.
The Kiso breed originates from the Kiso Valley and Kiso Sanmyaku mountain range in Nagano, and Higashimino region, Gifu, Honshu.
During the Meiji era the breed was severely affected by breeding programmes of the Imperial Army, which wanted taller horses and ordered that Kiso stallions be gelded.
山梨の紅葉台木曽馬牧場では木曽系乗用馬の保存、育成を目的に設立された。和種馬（木曽馬や北海道和種などの日本在来馬）の活用の1つとして和式馬術の探求を行っています。
Thanks to specalised breeding programs and horse ranches such as Kiso Uma Bokujo little by little the Kiso Uma population is growing once again.

Yabusame and washiki bajutsu practice the other day at Koyodai Horse Ranch in Yamanashi.
1. 弓の稽古。左腕に着けてるのが 射籠手です。
Target practice with a jindouya. The
protective sleeve I'm wearing is called an igote. Traditionally worn by yabusame/horseback archers.
2. 走路で和式馬術や騎射の稽古。やっと駈歩で立ち透かし😊Washiki Bajutsu practice I am still working on tachisukashi
3. 和種馬･木曽馬と過ごせる時間が平和です🐴Spending time with these beautiful Japanese horses is something I love.

Talking about zanshin
残身･残心の話
Translated directly as remaining spirit/ remaining form
📌Wiki says:
Zanshin is a state of awareness, of relaxed alertness. In several martial arts, zanshin refers more narrowly to the body's posture after a technique is executed.
📌一枚目は｢会｣という動作、引いてる状態で静かにからが延びあいながら離れが出ます。
The first photo is kai, at full draw. This dousa (movement) is active, I'm expanding milimeter by milimeter until release.

You can swipe back and forth to see kai to zanshin. See which arm moves, where everything ends up.
残身や残心がよく武道や古武道の世界で出てきます。武道によって少し意味合いが変わることもあります。
The word zanshin is oftentimes heard in budo and kobudo. Different budo have a different take on it sometimes.
基本動作:八節(はっせつ)の最後の方です。
In kyudo, zanshin is near the end of our 8 movements or hassetsu.
📌弓道や弓術の流派によって認める残身が変わります。弓の引き方や引く方向が変わると結果的に残身もかわります。
Depending on the school of archery, the zanshin that people will end up with will be different. Different schools or koryu will have different ways to shoot which changes the outcome=zanshin.
道場にある鏡を使って、自分の残身を確認すると射の弱点が見えてきます。
Checking our zanshin (usually there are mirrors right where we shoot) we can see where our technique needs improvement.
Some pointers are a straight bow, yugaeri (the bow rotates in our hand), the height of our bow hand isn't low or infront of us. Our tenouchi is intact. The examiners at our gradings check all of these things😄
