Happy Friday everyone!  🔹弓道の日の話 🔹Today is Kyudo Day 📌9月10日 が 「弓道の日」 きゅう（9）どう（10)（弓道）と読む語呂合わせから💮 📌September 10th is Kyudo Day 9 is kyu and 10 is do in Japanese. Run together it sounds like Kyudo💮 🔹感謝の日 🔹A day of appreciation and recognition 🔹弓道は一生歩み続ける武道と思います。一方、世界的にまだそこまで知られておらず、習える場所が海外ですとまだ少ない(私はできる限り弓道のことを続けて広めたいところです)。 一日一日、一射一射をゆっくり感じて味わって、情報たくさん吸収したいです。 🔹I think kyudo is a budo that can be continued for one whole life. It's not easily accessible or well known to everyone around the world (I'm working little by little to hopefully change that) so considering everything I'm taking my time and just appreciating and feeling every moment.  🔹私にとって弓道の日は感謝する日であります。先生や先輩、応援してくれてる皆さん、いなければ弓道ライフはこんなに充実はしてないと思います。 🔹For me today is a day I look back on when I started. I give thanks to my teachers and senpai, all those who encourage, support (you guys!!) and guide me. Happy Tuesday everyone😊 白馬はなぜ大切？の話 The symbolism of white horses  こちらが和種馬が北海道の道産子、お名前は翼くん「つばさ」です。「道産子の話下にあります」 This is a Japanese indigenous horse called Tsubasa. He's a breed native to Hokkaido called a Dosanko (more about Dosanko below) 🔹神馬（しんめ/じんめ、かみうま）は、神が騎乗する馬として神聖視された馬。神社に奉献され、祭事に登場する白馬さん。 小規模な神社ではその世話などが重荷となること、高価であり献納する側にとっても大きな負担となることから、絵馬などに置き換わっていった。等身大の馬の像をもって神馬とする事も多い。 🔹White horses are seen as sacred in Japan, and this tradition stems from when one of the first Emperors gifted a white horse to a shrine in prayer. Horses are also thought to be animal messengers that the Gods ride when coming down to the human world, so there are many Shinto rituals that use horses.  These days, statues and ema boards with white horse motifs are found more often than actual white horses. Seeing a white horse at the beginning of the year is seen as a sign of good luck and a means to ensure good health for the upcoming year. 🔹世界文化遺産の日光東照宮（栃木県日光市）にニュージーランド政府から寄贈された白馬「光丸（コーマル）号」が神馬（しんめ）になってます🐴 「光丸号」がニュージーランドの先住民族のマオリ語で「守られている」という意味）4代の神馬になってます。 🔹There is one shrine, the Toshogu Shrine in Nikko, that still houses one sacred white horse, Komaru, who was a gift from New Zealand to Japan. In Te Reo Maori the name means to be protected. 📌道産子（どさんこ）は北海道和種、北海道を中心に飼育されている日本在来種の馬です。本州から持ち込まれた南部馬が先祖とされてます。体高は～135cm、日本在来馬の中では比較的大きい。 📌The Dosanko (道産子), also known as the Hokkaido Horse (北海道馬), is one of Japan's eight indigenous horse breeds. It is the only one of the eight breeds that isn't critically endangered. They are about ~135cm in height and large compared to other Japanese indigenous horse breeds. 🔹北海道で古くからアイヌの人々は馬を飼育することがなく、鎌倉時代に大和民族が南部馬を本州から持ち込んで使役したのが北海道での馬の飼育の始まりといいます。 🔹江戸時代から北海道の漁場の開発が進み、夏に漁業出稼ぎの際に漁獲物の運搬などで使役するために盛んに馬が持ち込まれた。冬の間は北海道で放置され、翌年に冬を越すことができた馬を捕獲して使役していた。 🔹During the Edo period, Hokkaido's fishing industry grew and Dosanko were used for transporting the catches over summer. The horses were left to fend for themselves over a frozen winter and recaptured the following year for work. The Dosanko was well known as being a horse with a mild-mannered personality but with a unique and strong body that could withstand the bitter cold. #大鎧 #armor #白馬

Happy Saturday! 🎯狙いの話し 🎯Everything is aiming 「弓道&アーチェリーのフォロワーさんによる、狙いのお話リクエスト Request from archery and kyudo followers about aiming for kyudo.」 和弓では狙い｢ねらい｣は両目を使って的を見る。的に弓を付けて狙うのではなく、弓を引分けていくにしたがって的に狙いが着いていき、身体と心眼とで狙いがつくものと一般的な考えがある。狙い技術について「満月、闇、半月」今度話したいと思います。 We shoot with both eyes open and the target is either behind, covered by or in front of the bow. I will cover technical aiming in another post soon as I learn enough to let you all know. 正直、狙いについてまだそこまで説明できないです。昔は的ばっかり考えて、的似合わせて動き、射形より狙い気にしてた時ありました。 So to preface this, I am not a good person to ask about aiming. There was a point in my practice where I would search for the target in fulldraw and found myself getting really focussed on hitting and less on my form. 今は逆で師匠から「狙いつけた方がいい」といういうほど狙ってない。射のバランスやら速度やら技術しか考えてない。以前なように的中で気分が変わる時に戻りたくない。 Now I'm the opposite where my sensei is telling me to aim😅 I'm so intent on trying to balance my form and technique. I don't want to get wrapped up in some ego power trip with myself and how many times I hit the target. 正しい射がしたい、ちゃんと引きたい、それ達成すれば的中がついてくると信じてます。 I want to shoot correctly. I think this will in turn lead to hitting. 阿波研造 (あわ けんぞう)の事は面白いです。石巻市生まれ、21歳で石巻の旧藩士で堂射系の日置流雪荷派の木村辰五郎時隆に師事して弓術を始める、1913年本多利實に師事しました。 I'm most interested in Awa Kenzo, a kyujutsu master from Tohoku who lived till 1939. He studied Heki Ryu Sekka Ha, And Chikurin Ha then later Honda Ryu under Honda Toshizane. 考え: 術（テクニック）としての弓を否定し、道（精神修養）としての弓を探求する宗教的な素養が強かったといいます。目を殆ど閉じた状態で弓を絞ると、的が自分に近づいてきて、やがて一体化する。そこで矢を放つと「狙わずに中てる」ことが可能になるといってました。 His ideologies in the later part of his life were related to becoming one with the arrow and to love the process of shooting more than hitting (hitting comes as a result of correct form). Awa Kenzo san had a saying, everything is aiming. Let me know in the comments✨ 🐴幼い頃から、中世の鎧に興味ありました。本:King Athur が大好きで、自分が馬の上で鎧着る事が夢でした。プラスチックの盾と刀を持って中世騎士ごっこしました😊 Since I was very small, I was interested in armour. In NZ it was more about medieval European century armour, King Arthur and the Kinghts of the Round Table. I had a plastic sword and shield😊✨ A few months back when I got the chance to try kacchu or Japanese armour, I was so excited! 数ヵ月前日本の甲冑を着る機会が出てきて、とってもわくわくしました✨ 📷甲冑が 濃紺糸威朱桶側二枚胴具足 前立 四ツ又抱角 (のうこんいとおどししゅおけがわにまいどうぐそく まえたて よつまただきつの） ⚔️400年前の甲冑のレプリカになります✨ 身につけて頂いた武具は陣太刀（じんたち) ⚠️甲冑の重さは約23キロ This is armour is a replica of a 400 year old kacchu called  ｢Noukonito Odoshi Shuokegawa Nimai Doukusoku Maedate yotsumata takitsuno｣  This name describes the armour type or kacchu and the kabuto (helmet) type and adornings (horns, and maedate). My sword is a shintachi. This kacchu wasn't as heavy as Oyoroi but it weighed in at about 23 kilos. ズラリと並んだ甲冑と大鎧さん、ゆっくり着てた人物とその歴史について説明してくださったお兄さん😊 選んでから、説明しながら丁寧に着付けが始めました✨ I was educated on all the different types of armour and the famous samurai who wore them! Then dressed! Every part of the armour was explained to me carefully and I learnt alot. 歴史、伝統、沢山勉強させていただきました！ 甲冑作ってる会社が「丸武」といいます @marutake_industries 大河ドラマで見かける甲冑は子の会社が作ってます☺️ The company that makes this armour is called Marutake. I'm originally from New Zealand🇳🇿 I've been here 18 years. With self taught Japanese. I'm a 42 y/o mother of 3 who works on Japanese TV and in media here from time to time. I'm the ambassador of tourism and PR for my Prefecture of Saitama too.  まずは新しいフォロワーさん、はじめまして❗ニュージーランド出身、来日18年目、さいたま市在住、独学日本語、42歳、3児ママです。本業はマルチタレント、テレビや雑誌など出させていただいてます。埼玉県観光·PR大使 ラブ埼玉アンバサダーも勤めてます✨ 📌さって、スポーツ流鏑馬/流鏑馬競技はホースバックアーチェリーと和式馬術、伝統馬具、武具、和種馬を使った新しいスポーツです。 Sports yabusame or competitive yabusame (yabusame kyougi)  combines horseback archery with traditional Japanese equestrian techniques (washiki bajutsu) and equipment, and Japanese indigenous horses.  📌袴と道着を着て、ヘルメットまたは騎射笠をかぶる、左腕に射籠手(いごて)、武具は弓と征矢、又は神頭矢。 We ride in dougi and hakama using either a helmet or kisshagasa on our head. We put an igote /an archers sleeve on our left hand. We use a yumi like in kyudo and shoot either jindouya or soya arrows. 📌乗る馬が和種馬、馬具が和鞍(くら)と四方手(しおで)と馬栓(ばせん)鞍下に肌付(はだつけ)、切付(きりつけ)。オレンジ色の馬具が三懸（さんがい「面懸（おもがい）、助け、尻懸（しりがい）、胸懸（むながい）と和鐙。 The horses we ride are 1 of the 8 of Japanese indigenous breeds that exist here in Japan. Our saddle is a wa kura (Japanese saddle) with shiode, and basen, stirrups are wa abumi (Japanese stirrups), under the saddle we use kiritsuke and hadatsuke. I will talk about equipment though in another post. The orange horse tack is called san gai and includes the 3 areas on the body called omogai, munagai, and shirigai. During tests we will use a traditional bridal and bit (hami) but during practice we just use a regular bridle. 📌皆さん想像が付くと思いますが、スポーツ流鏑馬はみてても、実際やっててとてもエキサイティング。機会ありましたら是非やってみてください✨ Sports yabusame is as you can imagine, very exciting to both watch and participate it! If you get the chance, please try for yourself😊 I am having a kentei/test for washiki bajutsu in a couple of months which is exciting. I have shodan in sports yabusame already but the washiki bajutsu test will cover equipment, horse prep, riding techniques, control etc.

Happy Wednesday! ⚔️長巻の話 ⚔️Talking about the nagamaki 🔹先日山梨紅葉台牧場でお稽古行ってる間に初めて「馬上武芸」というものを体験しました。 馬上武芸とは「馬上で薙刀や長槍を持った状態で、思うままに和種馬を動かす技術。「NPO法人 日本和種馬文化研究協会」 🔹The other day at my keiko for washiki bajutsu and sports yabusame I had the chance to try bajobugei for the first time.  Loosely translated as martial arts on horseback. It can be defined as「techniques to control a horse whilst utilising a spear or naginata etc on horseback」The non profit: Japanese Horse and Culture Research Association 流旗(ながしばた)、追物射(おものい)、押捩(おしもじり)、押捩&追物射、刀、長刀も馬上武芸です。 📌長巻について 📌About the nagamaki こちらは長巻（ながまき）は刀剣の一種で、大太刀から発展した武具であるで。持ってる物: 全体の長さ約170センチです。刃渡り約74センチあります。重さ約1.4kg This is a nagamaki. It's classified as a type of sword developed from the Odachi. The one I'm holding is 170cm long, with a blade length of 74cm. It weighs about 1.4kg. I'm used to this length as my yumi is 221cm but the weight plus being elevated on horseback was something I had never experienced before. 📌長巻の武器としての発展過程とは異なり、長巻を扱う武術である長巻術は、剣術系の技法ではなく、薙刀術系の技法で構成されている。また、江戸時代に成立した長巻術の中には、薙刀術と混同している流派もあった。 槍と並び、戦場では重視された武器である。武士の振るう武器が薙刀や野太刀から、槍に移ると、高い威力を持つ武器として徒歩兵にも騎馬武者にも用いられるようになった。室町時代には薙刀と並んで主力武器であり、戦国時代には「槍が使えないなら長巻を使え」という言が残されている。　ウィキペディアより 📌As with the spear/yari, it was an important weapon on the battlefield. When the samurai's weapons moved from naginata and odachi to spears, they were used by ashigaru and cavalry as highly powerful weapons. In the Muromachi period, it was the main weapon along with the Naginata. In the Sengoku period, the phrase "If you can't use a spear, use a nagamaki" became popular and still is to this day.  The photos are mainly just to show you scale for a start. Its primary use was on horseback, hence the length. I will explain more about my bajobugei lesson and nagamaki on horse back next time! My clothing is more for washikibajutsu and sports yabusame however my sensei informs me there are no strict rules on clothing per se.
