Happy Monday 🔹八節(弓道の形)の話 🔹Talking about the hassetsu (kyudo kata) 弓道と言えば「会」という動作/形はネット上で結構見かけると思います。 More often than not you will have seen photos of kai or full draw here and there on my feed. だが、他に七つの動作があります。全部で八つになるので、八節と呼ばれてます。また流派によって若干流れが変わったりします(日置流印西派浦上系は三分の二もとります) In kyudo our kata or movements are called hassetsu as there are 8 for the school of archery that I train in. The Heki ryu Insaiha Urakami kei school of archery also has a movement called sanbun no ni. But I will talk about that another day as I actually quite like it. So the kyudo hassetsu are as follows ①足踏み(あしぶみ) 足を開き、正しい姿勢を作ります。 ASHIBUMI footing If this part isn't performed correctly your shooting can really be impacted. Its the foundation for your shooting. ②胴造り(どうづくり) 弓を左膝に置き、右手は右の腰にとります。 DOZUKURI correcting the posture 📸 Photo 4 ③弓構え(ゆがまえ) 右手を弦にかけ、左手(手の内)を整えてから的を見ます。 YUGAMAE readying the bow, torikake putting the glove on the string and making the left hand bow grip: tenouchi is important as it changes the direction the arrow will fly. ④打起し（うちおこし）3の弓構えの位置から、そのまま静かに両拳を同じ高さに持ちあげます。  UCHIOKOSHI raising the bow 📸 Photo 5 ⑤引分け（ひきわけ）打起こした弓を、左右均等に引分けます。 大三（押大目引三分一）をとり、 左右均等に引分け会に到らしむ。 HIKIWAKE drawing the bow, but before opening going into daisan position. 📸Photo 7 ⑥会（かい）5の引分けが完成し、心身が１つになり、発射のタイミングが熟すのを待ちます。 呼吸を詰めず、お腹の力が八分九分に満ちるのを待ちます。     KAI The meeting/drawing, expansion to the point of hanare which is the next movement 📸 Photo 1 ⑦離れ（はなれ）　胸廓（きょうかく）を広く開いて、矢を放ちます。 HANARE release, should in theory happen naturally. ⑧残心（残身）（ざんしん）射の総決算。矢が離れた時の姿勢をしばらく保ちます。 ZANSHIN remaining spirit/form and Yudaoshi: lowering of the bow. 今は引分には入る直前の大三(だいさん)という位置、そこで色々決まらないと引きのバランスがとれなくなったりします。特に最近再び手の内研究してます。 At the moment however I'm wrapped up in the moment just before hikiwake which is called daisan and getting the the arrow straighter and my bow hand grip (tenouchi) correct.  また、物見(ものみ)という打ち起こす前から、目線、頭の位置、肩の位置決まってから動かさないものですが無意識で動いたりしますのでそちらも直すために動力してます😊 My head angle and eyes when looking at the target, monomi, tends to move and shift during shooting so for the last few weeks I've been trying to really pay attention to keeping my head still. #kyudo#archer#archery#弓道#🎯#longbow#🇯🇵

Happy Friday everyone! 🔹アンティーク甲冑体験 🔹Trying Antique Armour 埼玉WABISABI大祭典:体験レポート WABISABI Daisaiten: Japanese Culture Festival report @saitama_wabisabi 先日 埼玉WABISABI大祭典のPRアンバサダーとして出席しました✨埼玉の和文化、伝統文化、沢山みて、体験してきました✨ The other weekend I went to the Saitama WABISABI Daisaiten festival as a PR ambassador! I experienced and saw so many aspects of traditional Japanese culture that come from the area where I live here in Japan: Saitama 埼玉県庁からラブ埼玉アンバサダーという正式な肩書きを頂いており、埼玉県の魅力を発信してます。 I'm a tourism and PR ambassador for Saitama Prefecture and have an official title that was given to me by the prefectural government. 大祭典で体験したものを少しずつ、写真で取り上げていきたいと思います✨ Over the next few weeks I will post photos and talk about the different things I tried. 今回は 🔹川越藩火縄銃鉄砲隊保存会 🔹甲冑体験 These photos are from my 🔹Kacchu Taiken with🔹Kawagoehan Hinawaju Teppotai Hozon Kai (Kawagoe Matchlock Squad Preservation Society) 刀術の天心流の滝沢先生が甲冑も着付けしてくれました @maa_ko1117 Takizawa Sensei from Tenshin Ryu dressed me in wonderful antique armour. He is also a volunteer in this hinawaju group. 鎧は、ほとんどが江戸時代の物を修復した物で、室町時代の物もあります。会では一部現代鎧と会員が自作で作った物を着ています。 The armour is special because most are pieces that have been preserved and restored from the Edo Period and Muromachi Period.  甲冑と陣羽織がとっても美しかった！さらに大使の襷をかけて、お散歩いってきてとっても良い気分でした😃 The armour and jinbaori(the coat on top of the armour) were so beautiful. I put my ambassador sash on top and went for a walk! The armour felt great and was sad when I had to take it off😄 保存会の皆様が埼玉の伝統文化、火縄銃、甲冑などを大切にしたいボランティアの方です。火縄銃の伝統文化が忘れちゃいけないと思います😊 This group are volunteers who work to preserve Saitama's matchlock traditions and history. Happy Friday🐴 和鐙 (あぶみ) の話し Talking about wa abumi (Japanese stirrups) 🔹After reading if you are interested to know more or have suggestions for other posts please let me know in the comments below! 🔹来年は和式馬術をならい始めて二年になるところで最近少しずつ道具や馬具を集めるようになってます。伝統馬具はアンティーク、伝統工芸品になるものが多いので割りと購入する値段もその分高いです。状態は様々ですがすぐに使える物は高価格になります。 Next year it will be 2 years since I started learning to ride Japanese style (wa shiki) and little by little I have been trying to buy my own equipment. The issue is that traditional horse tack is usually antique meaning the price is quite high for pieces in good condition. 🔹ご縁があって馬具工房やってらっしゃる @bagu4590 さんから江戸時代アンティーク鐙購入しました！ I managed to purchase antique Japanese stirrups called abumi from @bagu4590 who happens to be amongst other things a  horse tack craftsman. The abumi are handmade from the Edo period and can be seen over on his feed too. 🔹鉄でできており、形が美しい、使いやすさに驚き😆ブリティッシュやウェスタンの馬術に使う鐙と違って日本独自の鐙はスリッパーなような形になってて、安定感が抜群です。 Made of steel they are so comfortable and easy to use. As you can see in the photos I've posted your foot slides inside and because of the shape doesn't fall out or go further up like stirrups from other countries. As you can imagine they offer a lot of stability when riding. 🔹When taking both or on hand off the reins wa abumi together with the wa kura, Japanese saddle help to keep the rider balanced and stable. In this way using naginata, yumi, katana etc on horseback are possible. 🔹私の鐙が古いけれど、残ってる模様が大変美しいと思います。黒にオレンジ、黄色、赤の模様がとっても好き。 Even though these abumi are very old, they have a wonderful orange yellow and red pattern still remaining in some places. 🔹和式馬術の稽古なさってる方皆さんが使えるようにとりあえず私の鐙は馬場に置いてあります。見た目美しく、使い心地良い物ですので家に置物にされるのはもったいないと思います。今度正式の和式馬術審査と大会に、使われるようで、嬉しいく思ってます。 For now I've left them over at the horse ranch I practice at as they will let others use them too. They are so beautiful and comfortable I think its a waste to keep them at home with me. Happy Monday everyone!! 🔹馬上鎧甲冑の研究 🔹Talking about riding in armour. 🔸To see other related posts click #ridinginarmor 🔸To see armor posts click #Jessinarmor 🔹先日「写真で見れる鎧甲冑」始めて着て、馬乗りました。勿論木曽馬です😆伝統馬具を使いました。 The other day I rode in this armour for the first time. I rode a Japanese indigenous horse 「Kiso Uma」with a traditional saddle, stirrups and horse tack.  🔹鎧甲冑というと鉄でできておりますがそこまで重たくないです(20㌔前後) 着ないで乗る、着てる状態で乗るとやはり大きいな違い色々ありました、 The armour wasn't too heavy (about 20 plus kilos) but riding in armour was very different and interesting as you'd expect 🔹体の重心が変わり、乗りながら研究して、バランスを探してました。鞍、鐙、手綱の使い方が少し変わり、研究中の立ち透かしをいかしてみたりして、上下の動きはどう変わるのか？と試してみました。 My centre of gravity changed slightly so I adjusted my posture accordingly. I had to use my legs like suspension leaving a small space between the saddle and myself when trotting so the up and down movements wouldn't be too dramatic. With every movement the armour would make a lot of sounds! 🔹鎧甲冑から馬の負担を減らすため、坂おりる時や坂のぼる時はしっかりと後ろや前に体/姿勢を動かしてみまでぃた。 When going downhill and uphill I just needed to make sure I was leaning back or forward enough to take the strain off the horse due to the added weight of the armour. 🔹初めて草鞋はいて馬乗りました。滑るっという不安ありましたが、バッチリでした。はきやすかったし、滑りもせずとってもよかったです。I wore waraji, traditional straw rope sandals. I thought that my feet would slip in the steel stirrups (abumi) but were amazingly comfortable and easy to wear. 🔹馬上の鎧甲冑乗りはとっても勉強になりました！研究できる機会が中なかなくて、今回沢山乗れて嬉しかった✨ Riding in armour was quite an eye opening experience and just being about to research, test and experiment riding in armour was a very special opportunity for me. Hopefully I will be trying again soon! 🔹木曽馬x鎧甲冑 体つきが立派な木曽うまですが、伝統馬具やぴったり合うし、こちらの馬場では色んな方が鎧を着て馬乗り乗りますので、馬はなれてるようです。 The horses are used to people riding them and training in armour. Their legs are sturdy and their midsection and back is a perfect fit for traditional Japanese horse tack. Happy Friday! 竹弓の話し、竹は大切 Talking about the bamboo bow, take yumi 「竹弓」 🔹I got the very special chance to be involved in the selection and cutting of bamboo for bows (yumi) for Koyama Kyudo Shop @koyamakyugu Just being able to help was a massive honour. It was an experience I will never forget! I have a new found appreciation for take and take bows and arrows. この間初めて竹弓のための材料: 真竹 マダケを切りに行きました！ 大変貴重な体験でした。そもそも竹弓になるまでの流れが秘密が多く、実際そのプロセスに手伝いできるなんて光栄ですね。竹弓、竹矢の見た目が変わりました。今後もっと勉強して竹弓、竹矢もっと大切していきたいなと思います✨ Traditional techniques are fairly shrouded in secrecy, however I'm allowed to show you into the 竹take selection process! 🔹昔から竹が日本の方の日常生活に沢山使われてます。履き物やら、服、武器から流鏑馬射手の騎射笠なども。 Traditionally, bamboo has been used for many things in Japan from footwear to clothing, weapons to the kisshagasa that yabusame archers wear on their heads. 🔹弓を引く私にとって竹と言えば、弓と矢ですね。昔から竹しかなかったが昭和行以降グラスやカーボン弓がで始め少しずつ弓の業界が変わっていきました。 Being a kyudo practitioner, bamboo for me means yumi and ya. Historically yumi were all take, around the Showa period the invention of fibreglass then carbon yumis changed the bow crafting industry and the way people viewed takeyumi. 🔹さって、竹林に入り、竹をはかるための赤い簿を頂きました、そちらに理想の節の間隔の目印がついてて、竹に合わせると理想がどうか目で判断できます☺️ We entered the chikurin bamboo forest and were given a guide (red ruler) to show the best length and node spacing. 🔹弓に理想な竹と言えば 色合、節と節の間隔、竹幅、全体形、節の出っ張り具合/色合等 So what's important in selection? Node spacing, node flatness and colouring, bamboo thickness, straightness, colouring (as it relates to age) amongst other things. 🔹何本か見つけたけど本当に難しかった！当日 日置流伊達印西流の黒須先生と、小山弓具の小山社長と一緒で沢山勉強させていただきました！ I found several but it took a longtime with such a stringent checklist. I cut the take together with Kurosu sensei who is introduced over at @humansofmartialarts and Mr Koyama the owner of Koyama Kyudo shop. 🔹持って帰る竹は最高質な物のみ、工房で数ヵ月から数年乾燥させてからいよいよ弓の製作が始まる、 After the bamboo is cut it is then cut lengthwise again and transported to the workshop where it spends several months/years before the bow making process even begins! 一生忘れない体験でした✨ This was an experience I'll never forget. #kyudo #弓道 #forest #green #bamboo #伝統工芸品 #竹林 #竹 #🎋 #🌿 #DIY #ノコギリ #bambooforest #travel #archery #🏹 #🎯
